If I Die

— a quiet question to the night

If I die...

will you walk me,

just till the gate of light—

and wait

a little longer,

to watch out for me?

Will you turn back then,

alone,

through the hush of the path

we once wandered?

Will you feel a hush of peace—

or

will loneliness

settle like dew on your chest?

That night,

will the silence feel colder?

Would you wish,

just once,

to hear my voice again—

soft,

like the wind we used to chase?

Will you walk once more

through the places we meandered,

where laughter once clung

to the air

like perfume from yesterday?

Will the pains we shared

echo softly—

like lullabies

for the lost?

Will your eyes,

perhaps,

cry for me?

...Does it always

end like this?

Or

will the twinkle of the stars

continue to hold the warmth—

forever?
